How Is Your Heart?
My beloved brothers, and sisters in Christ, All that I write, I pray first to God to guide my words. He is the sole source of my writing. All the credit goes to God, not to me. I am only his humble servant. Tradition says that if a King has an heir, he will inherit the throne and country. Saul was anointed King by God because Israel decided to follow a person instead of God. However Saul did not obey God, so God took his kingdom from him and gave it to David. Saul became bitter and tried to remove David like someone trying to remove a weed from a garden. Jonathan looked at David as a flower for the garden, Israel. God was with David and gave him a loyal friend in Jonathan. He realized that God had chosen David to rule over Israel. Because of Jonathan's faith and loyalty to David, Jonathan's family remained and lived in David's household. God looks at the heart and soul of a person and not outward appearance. When combined the stories of Jonathan’s father, Saul, Jonathan, and David they give us reason to ask not about our place in life but the condition of our hearts.
