The Spirit of The Law Or The Letter of The Law

I start every morning with coffee and God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread Ministries, https://odb.org. Today’s devotion is titled “Good News for Feet” The scripture is from John 5:1–9 with the key verse, " For you, Lord, have delivered me from death . . . that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living", Psalm 116:8–9. Mart DeHaan wrote this devotion. My brothers, and sisters in Christ, all that I write, I pray first to God to guide my words, so that it may serve as spiritual food and guidance. I want God to be the sole source of my writing, so all the credit goes to Him, not to me. I am only his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as a base for comments. Jesus and the Pharisees were always at odds. The Pharisees followed the letter of the law, but Jesus wanted them to learn to follow the spirit of the law. Jesus demonstrates compassion and love when He heals this person on the Sabbath. The Pharisees saw rules where Jesus saw the need for mercy. We have to do the same.

Reflect: What needs do you see in those around you? In what ways have you seen Jesus meet your own needs?

Prayer: Jesus, allow me to see and meet the needs of others. To learn more about the life of Christ, visit christianuniversity.org/NT111.

May God bless you and allow you to see and meet the needs of others.
