I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Healing words.” Kirsten Holmberg wrote this devotion. The scripture is from Proverbs 16:20–24, with the key verse, “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”, Proverbs 16:24. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all that I write, I pray first to God to guide my words so that it may serve as spiritual food and guidance. I want God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am His humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for my comments.
In my life, I was influenced by the military. After high school graduation, I went to Wentworth Military Academy. Then I enlisted in the Air Force and later, I was a Naval officer. I was “old school”. The only way to communicate was through intimidation and harsh language. That was my world. That was the military I knew.
Today. the military changed through management courses. I changed through the Holy Spirit. Once I was aggressive and abrasive in the way I talked to people. Now, I am gentle in spirit and speech. The writer of Proverbs knew how important encouraging words are. “Gracious words” bring “healing to the bones,” he wrote (Proverbs 16:24). The positive effect of words, and when we heed the wisdom of instruction, we’re also more likely to prosper in our efforts (v. 20).
Reflect:
Who has spoken “gracious words” into your life? Why is it vital for you to share words of encouragement with others?
Prayer:
Dear Father, thank You for Your words of healing and hope
May God bless you and give words of healing and hope.
