Sweeter Than Honey

I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Sweeter Than Honey.” Patricia Raybon wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from Proverbs 16:1–2 and Proverbs 16:21–24 with the key verse, “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”, Proverbs 16:24. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all that I write, I first pray to God to guide my words so that it will serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of wiring. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments.

Before I became a Christian, I had a terrible mouth. I went out of my way to belittle and demoralize anyone I was talking to. My mouth was so bad, that I knew people around me could not stand it. Every other word was a curse word. I was a supervisor, but everyone was afraid of me.

As a Christian, I still have problems with my mouth and emotions. As my emotions go, so does my mouth. When this happens, I cut loose with some belittling and nasty words. I tried to beat down people who disagree with me. I know now that I am wrong. As a Christian, I will continue to pray that The Holy Spirit will take control of my mouth and thoughts.

We all can benefit by gracing our opinions and thoughts with Godly and prudent sweetness. In Solomon’s words, “To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue” Proverbs 16:1.

Reflect:

What is your way of speaking when talking about a hot and divisive topic? When you allow God’s Spirit to sweeten your tongue, what changes in your words?

Prayer:

Our holy God, when we speak on hard topics, soften our hearts and words with Your sweet Spirit.

May God bless and guide you when speaking on hard topics, soften your heart and word with Your sweet Spirit.
