The Foolish Way of New Life
I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “The Foolish Way of New Life.” Amy Peterson wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from 1 Corinthians 1:20–31 with the key verse, “The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.,” 1 Corinthians 1:18. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments.
Do you remember your mother’s instruction not to touch the pretty blue flame on the stove? How about “do not play with matches?’ Since we never experienced the consequences, we ignored the warnings and experienced pain.
I remember people telling me about salvation. They talked about the freedom and joy they experienced. I know that their happiness was real. The message of the cross was foolishness to me. Once I became saved, I experienced joy and freedom they talked about and more. The weight of my guilt was suddenly lifted.
God took something shameful and weak, death on a cross, to make it the foundation of wisdom and power. He chooses the weak and foolish things of the world to shame the wise and arrogant.
Reflect:
How is God surprising you today? Why is it true that God’s ways are better than your methods?
Prayer:
God, with Isaiah, I pray, as high as the heavens are above the earth, so are Your ways higher than my ways.
My Prayer for You:
May God bless you and keep your eyes focused on the message of the cross.
