A Parade of Colors

I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “A Parade of Colors.” Bill Crowder wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from Revelation 5:7–14 with the key verse, “With your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation,” Revelation 5:9. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments.

I was born and raised in a small mid-western town. I am black, with a rich history. Although this town was in a slave state, it was very much diverse. On my street, my neighbors were German. Across the street was the family that might be descendants of the Normandy Neers from England. My Dad’s grandfather was Irish. My family had people living in Illinois that passed for “white.” My present wife is Filipino, and my son married a Latina. Our family is very diverse.

I look at my family as a reflection of Heaven. Revelations say that our Savior “purchased with his blood for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation,” Revelation 5:9. Heaven is a parade of every people group celebrating the wonder of being children of the living God, together as one family, believers in Jesus.

Reflect:

What are the best things about the church being so diverse? What can make that diversity occasionally challenging?

Prayer:

Father, I thank You that no people group is excluded from Your great love. Teach us to truly love one another, as You have so generously loved us.

My Prayer for You:

May God bless and teach you to truly love others, as He has so generously loved you.
