On Our Hearts
I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “On Our Hearts.” Alyson Kieda wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is Deuteronomy 6:1–9 with the key verse, “These commandments . . . are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children”, Deuteronomy 6:6–7. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments.
When we were children, most of us learned the Christian Child’s Prayer, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. In most schools, we learn The Pledge of Allegiance to The Flag. There are many phrases used to ground us in faith and loyalty.
God chose the Israelites as His people. He liberated them from bondage and through Moses taught His laws to them. God commanded them to learn and obey all his laws so they will keep their focus on Him. Knowing God’s commands and keeping our focus on Him is required of us today. To help us understand and love God is to talk about His Word, “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.”, Deuteronomy 6:7–9.
Reflect:
What can you do to keep Scripture on your heart? Why is it important to read and talk about the Word with loved ones?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for giving me each new day. Help me to keep Your wisdom in my heart and on my mind.
My Prayer for You:
May God bless you help keep His wisdom in your heart and on your mind.
