In the Father's Way

I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today's devotion is titled "In the Father's Ways." John Blasé wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is 1 Samuel 8:1–9 with the key verse, "They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.", 1 Samuel 8:3. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments.

Today's devotion's lesson speaks about leaders who have gone astray from God's values, instructions, and laws. Samuel's sons became Israel's judges. Instead of following their father's footsteps, they used their positions unjustly, for personal gains.

Unfortunately, some of our present leaders' behavior and motives are like Samuel's sons. Their purposes fueled with greed and lawlessness. They swore before God that they will perform their duties impartially and justly. However, they use their positions of power to exploit the weak and vulnerable and pass laws for personal gain.

Brave people are exposing the actions of these leaders and asking for change. We know God is watching, and he will bring justice.

To refuse to walk in God's ways allows room for the perversion of Christian values. As a result, injustice flourishes. To walk in His ways means honesty and justice are clearly seen not only in words but also in deeds.

Reflect:

What current example of injustice are you aware of? What is one way you can work toward justice in that example?

Prayer:

God, injustice surrounds us on every side, often overwhelming our hearts. Help me to stand with those who suffer and commit my life to walk in Your ways.

My Prayer for You:

May God bless you and help you stand with those who suffer and commit your life to walk in God's ways.
