Named by God

I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Named by God.” Lisa M. Samra wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is Ruth 1:19–22 with the key verse, “’ Don’t call me Naomi,’” she told them. “’ Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter.’”, Ruth 1:20. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ, for all I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments.

I recall that I had many names. In the town I grew up in and went to school, I was Dorian. When I was in the service, my nickname was Andy. When I made a bad shot or decision playing tennis, I call my self “Dummy.” Names and nicknames are what identifies you.

Being called a beloved “Child of God” tells me that I am loved by God and heir to His kingdom.

Reflect:

Think of a nickname someone gave you. What did you like or not like about it? How does being called a beloved child of God change how you see yourself?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that I’m not defined by the circumstances or experiences of my life. Thank You for calling me Your child.

My Prayer for You:

May God bless and call you His child.
