Giving Thanks in All Things
I start every day with God, reading daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Giving Thanks Always.” Amy Boucher Pye wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from Isaiah 12:1–6 with the key verse, “Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.” Isaiah 12:4. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ; for all I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments and witness.
It is easy to give thanks during harvest celebrations such as Thanksgiving. We enjoy an abundant feast with friends and family. Can we express our gratitude to God in difficult times? How about when we’re missing someone from our table, or when we’re struggling with finances, or we’re in conflict with one close to us?
We are going through the most significant tests of our faith. There is the Covid-19 virus that is killing more than 1,000 each day. Our present President threatens our democracy. He believes the election was stolen from him. He has tried every legal and illegal way to disenfranchise millions of votes in urban areas. Our daughter has Covid-19, and her chances are very grim.
Through all of this, we find times of praise. We thank God that my wife and I are healthy and have good jobs. We praise God that our daughter has the best medical care in the country. We have a roof over our heads and have financial resources to pay our bills and give help to those who need it.
Reflect:
In times of hardship, how do you turn to Thanksgiving and praise? What role does God, through His Holy Spirit, play in this?
Prayer:
Father God, I thank You for Your amazing work in my life. You love me unendingly, more than I can even express.
My Prayer for Us:
Father God, we thank You for Your amazing work in our lives. You love us unendingly, more than we can ever express.
