FaithWithout Actions Is Dead

I start every day with God and reading daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Active Faith.Tim Gustafson wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from James 2:14–26. The key verse is, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.” James 1:27. My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ; before I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries to inspire comments and witnessing.

Today we learned from James, the half-brother of Jesus, that faith alone is not enough. We need to act on our faith. I remember how people provided us with support of all kinds when I lost my job and after our daughter tried to commit suicide. Then again, after our daughter died due to COVID. It can be a simple act like paying for their lunch, looking after an older person, or sharing God’s word with someone.

As Christians, our actions demonstrate the genuineness of our faith. These actions can influence others to want to know more about Jesus.

Reflect

How have you experienced the love of Jesus extended to you? What can you do to help someone in need?

My prayer for us:

Faithful God, help us to live out our faith in You. We want the way we serve others to honor You.
