God Brings Peace in Chaos

I start every day with God and reading daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Peace in the Chaos.” Julie Schwab wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from Psalm 121. The key verse is, “Our] help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2. My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ; before I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries to inspire comments and witnessing.

I had my share of experiencing God’s Peace in many troubling situations. I saw him help others who experience troubling situations.

Background: three times a year, all male Israelites come to the temple in Jerusalem to observe the three annual national feasts (Deuteronomy 16:16): Passover (Unleavened Bread), Pentecost (Weeks), and Tabernacles. As the pilgrims walked the mountain paths to Jerusalem, they sang from an anthology of fifteen songs known as the “Pilgrim Psalms,” characteristically titled “A song of ascents.”

Psalm 121 is known as “The Traveler’s Psalm.” It is a prayer for journeying mercies, addressing safety and security concerns as we journey through life.

Psalm 121 is a reminder for us to look to God in times of trouble. We see that we can have peace and calm because our “help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” (v. 2). The God who created the universe helps and watches over us (v. 3) even while we sleep. He never sleeps (v. 4). He watches over us day and night (v. 6), “both now and forevermore” (v. 8).
